みなさん、「江戸時代」を知っていますか？
江戸時代というのは、日本の1603年から1867年までの時代です。
100年以上つづいた日本国内の戦争をおわらせて、徳川家康が江戸－いまの東京－に「幕府」を開いたことからはじまります。
江戸時代は265年間もつづきました。戦争がおわって、平和になったことから、江戸時代には文化が発展し、国民の教育もすすみました。
Do you know about the “Edo period”?
It was a period in Japan that lasted from 1603 to 1867.
It began with Tokugawa Ieyasu opening a “shogunate” in Edo, which is now Tokyo, to end the more than 100 years of internal wars in Japan.
The Edo period lasted for 265 years. As peace was established after the wars, culture flourished and education progressed.
今日は、「そんな平和な江戸時代にふつうの人たちはどんな生活をしていたの！？」がよくわかる、日本の伝統芸能、「落語」を紹介します。
In this time, we will explore the traditional Japanese art form of “rakugo,” which provides a window into the lives of ordinary people during the peaceful Edo period.
落語って何！？
What is Rakugo?
江戸時代にうまれた日本の伝統芸能、Storytellingです。
Rakugo is a traditional Japanese art form that originated in the Edo period and involves storytelling.
江戸時代の人々の話が多いですが、最近の落語家が作ったあたらしい話もたくさんあります。スマートフォンがでてくる話もあります。
Although many of the stories are from the Edo period, there are also many new stories created by modern Rakugo performers, some of which involve smartphones.
必要なものは、扇子と落語家のテクニック！！それだけです。
まず、扇子は、話の中にでてくるお箸やタバコ、釣りざおなどのかわりになります。
扇子（お箸）でそばを食べる場面がよくでてくるんですが、ほんとうに扇子がお箸に見えるんです！落語家は、扇子をじょうずに使いながら、お客さんにストーリーの場面を想像させるんですね。
The only things required are a fan and the Rakugo performer’s technique.
The fan is used as a prop in place of chopsticks, cigarettes, fishing poles, etc. that are mentioned in the story.
There are often scenes in which people eat soba with fans (chopsticks), and the fans really look like chopsticks! The rakugo artist uses the fan skillfully to make the audience imagine the scene of the story.
そして落語家は顔の方向をかえることで、一人でいろいろな人の役をします。女性になったり子供になったり…。
The Rakugo performer changes their facial expressions and body position to play different roles, such as women and children.
落語家の話を聞きながら、お客さんはその場面を想像します。
おもしろい場面のときはみんなで大声で笑って、まじめな場面のときはみんなシーンとして一生懸命話を聞きます。
話を聞いているだけなのに、まるで目の前にその場面が見えるみたいです。
As the performer tells the story, the audience imagines the scenes in their minds.
When there are funny moments, everyone laughs loudly, and during serious moments, they listen intently.
Despite just listening to the story, it feels like the scene is right in front of you.
一番の魅力は、「時代がかわっても、人間はかわらないんだな。人間ってバカみたいだけど、おもしろくていいなあ。」と思うところではないでしょうか。
The greatest appeal of Rakugo may be that “even though times change, people remain the same. Humans are silly, but they are also interesting.”

いつもにこにこ。表情がゆたかで、ストーリーに引きこまれます。お顔を見ながら話を聞いているだけでも、しあわせな気持ちになります！鯉昇さんは現在70代ですが、「鯉昇ギャル」とよばれる女性のファンが多いことでも有名です。
He always has a smile on his face. His expressive face draws you into the story. Just by listening to him while looking at his face, you feel happy! Risho -san is currently in his 70s, but he is famous for having many female fans known as ” Risho gals.”

落語に使われる日本語はちょっと古いし、話すスピードもはやいので、正直ちょっとむずかしいときもあります。
だから、私にはまだまだむり…と思ってしまいますよね。でも大丈夫！まず最初に、アニメを見てみましょう！

2016年～2017年にNHKで放送された30分の番組です。2022年から15分の番組として再放送されています。
なんとこの番組は、落語のストーリーをドラマにしてしまったんです！ナレーションやセリフはぜんぶ落語家が話して、俳優がその話にあわせて演じています。
実際に顔の表情や行動が見えるので、言葉がむずかしくても問題ありません。わかりやすくて、ほんとうにおもしろいですよ！俳優もとっても豪華です！
This is a 30-minute program that was broadcast on NHK from 2016 to 2017. It is now being rebroadcast as a 15-minute program from 2022.
This program actually turned rakugo stories into dramas! The narration and lines are all spoken by rakugo performers, and actors act them out accordingly.
