それではさっそくですがみなさん、7月がつの第だい3月曜日げつようびは何なんの日ひかごぞんじですか？

はい、そうです、海うみの日ひです！

Do you know what day it is on the third Monday of July?

Yes, that’s right, it’s Marine Day!

海うみの日ひは、1995年ねんにつくられた国民こくみんの祝日しゅくじつです。そして、この祝日しゅくじつは「海うみの恩恵おんけいに感謝かんしゃするとともに、海洋国かいようこく日本にほんの繁栄はんえいをねがう」ことが目的もくてきなのです！

どういうことかというと、海うみにかこまれた島国しまぐにの日本にほんは、海うみのおかげでたくさんの海うみの食材しょくざいをとることができます。

そんな海うみに感謝かんしゃをし、海うみとともによりよい国くにを作つくりましょう！と感謝かんしゃする日ひなのです。

Marine Day is a national holiday that was established in 1995. The purpose of this holiday is to “express gratitude for the blessings of the ocean and hope for the prosperity of Japan as a maritime nation.”

In other words, Japan, being an island country surrounded by the ocean, can obtain a variety of seafood thanks to the ocean.

It is a day to show gratitude and work towards creating a better country with the sea! That’s what Marine Day is all about.

日本人にほんじんは海うみに行いったらなにをするの？　
What do Japanese people do at the beach?

みなさんは夏なつに海うみへ遊あそびに行いきますか？海うみへ行いくとどんなことをしますか？

夏なつに海うみへ遊あそびに行いく日本人にほんじんはたくさんいます。

海水浴場かいすいよくじょうでは、バーベーキューをしたり、スイカ割わり（目めかくしをした挑戦者ちょうせんしゃが周囲しゅういの声こえだけをたよりに、手てにした棒ぼうでスイカを割わる遊あそび）をしたりします。

ほかにも、シュノーケリングやサーフィン、そして最近さいきんはサップも人気にんきになってきましたね。

私わたしは小ちいさいころに海うみへ行いくと、カニなどの海うみの生物せいぶつたちをさがすのが好すきでした。真まっ赤かに日焼ひやけしながらさがしていたことを思おもい出だします！

Do you go to the beach during the summer? What do you do there?

Many Japanese people go to the beach to play during the summer. At the beach, they have barbecues, play watermelon splitting (a game where blindfolded participants rely only on the voices around them to try and split a watermelon with a stick), and engage in activities like snorkeling, surfing, and recently, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) has also become popular.

When I was child, I used to love searching for sea creatures like crabs when I went to the beach. I remember enthusiastically searching for them while getting sunburned and turning red!

Introduction to Marine Day Events!

それではつぎに、海うみの日ひに開催かいさいされる行事ぎょうじを紹介しょうかいしたいと思おもいます。

Let me introduce some events held on Marine Day.

ふだん見みることのできない船ふねの一般いっぱん公開こうかいや体験たいけん航海こうかい、コンサートなど海うみに関かんするさまざまなイベントが開催かいさいされています。

First, there’s the “Marine Festa.” This is a week-long event held in different locations each year, with connections to the sea in various places across Japan.

It features events such as open ship tours, sailing experiences, concerts, and other activities related to the ocean that are not usually seen in daily life.

海うみの日ひ名古屋なごやみなと祭まつり（Nagoya port festivel）

2つ目めは、灯台とうだいの一般いっぱん開放かいほうです。いつもは一般いっぱん公開こうかいされていない灯台とうだいも開放かいほうされて見みることができます。

場所ばしょによっては音楽祭おんがくさいもいっしょに開催かいさいされていたりするようです。

ほかにも7月がつを「海うみの月間げっかん」としてさまざまなイベントが全国ぜんこく各地かくちで開催かいさいされます。イベント情報じょうほうを調しらべて、ぜひおとずれてみてください！

Second, there is the opening of lighthouses to the public. Lighthouses that are not usually open to the public can be visited on this day.

Some locations even have music festivals in conjunction with the lighthouse opening.

In addition, various events are held throughout the country during July as “Marine Month.” I encourage you to look up event information and visit if you get the chance!

最後さいごに、日本人にほんじんに人気にんきな海水浴場かいすいよくじょうが多おおくある地域ちいきをいくつかご紹介しょうかいします。

まずはきれいな海水浴場かいすいよくじょうといえば沖縄おきなわではないでしょうか。

沖縄おきなわ本島ほんとうにある海水浴場かいすいよくじょうはもちろんきれいですが、沖縄おきなわ本島ほんとうから行いける離島りとうの海水浴場かいすいよくじょうもとてもすばらしいです。

Finally, let me introduce a few regions in Japan that have popular beach destinations.

First, when it comes to beautiful beaches, Okinawa is a popular choice.

The beaches on the main island of Okinawa are stunning, and the beaches on the remote islands that can be reached from the main island are also fantastic.

そして東京とうきょう近郊きんこうですと神奈川県かながわけん！神奈川県かながわけんにも多おおくの海水浴場かいすいよくじょうがあり、葉山町はやまちょうにある「一色いっしき海水浴場かいすいよくじょう」や鎌倉市かまくらしにある「由比ガ浜ゆいがはま海水浴場かいすいよくじょう」なども人気にんきの海水浴場かいすいよくじょうです。

Another popular destination near Tokyo is Kanagawa Prefecture. There are many beaches in Kanagawa, and places like “Isshiki Beach” in Hayama Town and “Yuigahama Beach” in Kamakura City are popular beach spots.

私わたしがおすすめする海水浴場かいすいよくじょうも2つほどご紹介しょうかいしたいと思おもいます。

まずは1つ目め、北海道ほっかいどう小樽市おたるしにある蘭島らんしま海水浴場かいすいよくじょうです。札幌さっぽろからJRで約やく1時間じかんほどで行いくことができるこちらの海水浴場かいすいよくじょうは、海うみもきれいで多おおくの北海道ほっかいどう民みんに人気にんきの海水浴場かいすいよくじょうとなっています。

I would also like to recommend a couple of beach destinations.

First, there is Ranshima Beach in Otaru City, Hokkaido. It takes about one hour by train from Sapporo, and it’s a popular beach among Hokkaido residents with its beautiful sea.

そして2つ目めは、伊豆大島いずおおしまの海水浴場かいすいよくじょうです。東京とうきょうからジェット船せんで約やく1時間じかん45分ふんほどで行いくことができる伊豆大島いずおおしまにはきれいな海水浴場かいすいよくじょうがいくつかあります。

島内とうないはおだやかな雰囲気ふんいきでゆっくりと島しまのよさを満喫まんきつすることができますよ！

And the second one is the beaches in Izu Oshima. Izu Oshima, which can be reached by jet boat from Tokyo in about 1 hour and 45 minutes, has several beautiful beaches.

The island has a calm atmosphere, allowing you to leisurely enjoy the island’s charm!
